Tam, to the Berkeley Skyline and gazes west toward the Pacific ocean.  This 7,000+ square foot Mediterranean Style home sits on 11 acres and when you arrive onto its long driveway with circular lead around an island of twin palm trees, you instantly feel as though you’ve entered onto a fabulous private villa in the Mediterranean countryside.
This home has some local history as well as it belonged the beloved legendary guitarist for the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia.  It was the home he owned at the time of his death in 1995. Many aspects of the home that he added are still present.  The current owner, who is close to remaining members of the Grateful Dead, has discovered many interesting stories that surround the time Jerry lived here.

Along with the stunning architecture and overall design of the house itself, the grounds boast impeccable landscaping.  Its rolling lawns, along with mature palm trees mix spectacularly with the surrounding native forest. Its 73,000-gallon swimming pool and enormous spa are complemented by palms, lawns, and rose gardens adjoining a spacious sun drenched patio area beneath sunlit skies during the day and moonlit skies at night.

Once on the property, one finds that it is completely self-sufficient for weeks at a time. The Property comes with the deepest well on the ranch and has its own water treatment facility servicing both the home and the irrigation respectively. In addition, the large Olympia hidden generator supplies power automatically if and when needed. The generator is supplied with its own 450-gallon propane tank. The house is supplied with propane from two 900-gallon propane tanks. A modest vegetable garden is conveniently but not conspicuously located near the main house.

Once inside the home, one immediately takes in the spacious grandeur of its character.  Each room boasts high ceilings and wonderful light. The marble entry hall is especially remarkable as it greets friends, family and guests with warmth and grace. The eye falls flawlessly onto a grand staircase leading to the stars. To the right lies a cozy den for private reading and relaxation and just a bit further is a formal living room with wood-burning fireplace and large framed windows facing west that deliver majestic views. The other side of the living room offers spacious doors that open directly to the patio and pool.

To the left of the entry is a magnificent dining room separated from but easily accessible to the gourmet kitchen.  The Fortuni chandelier over the dining room table along with matching sconces serves to remind each guest of the elegance of the gathering at the table.

The gourmet kitchen is a chef’s dream space offering double over and under ovens, built-in microwave, eight burner stove top, center console with built-in trash compactor, dishwasher, full sized Sub-Zero Refrigerator and full-sized Sub-Zero Freezer. The cabinet space is so abundant that it is hard to fill. The kitchen offers a large framed windows to the patio and pool creating an intimate connection to grounds. The dark marble counter tops wrap around the entire area and a raised marble tabletop at one end beckons guests to sit in high stools and engage in conversation while the meal is being prepared. A perfect little breakfast area with views to the patio and pool complement this area of the home.

In following the impeccable flow of the house, the next room is undoubtedly the family room complete with Wood-burning fireplace, entertainment center with 8’x10’ Stewart movie screen, installed by Jerry Garcia. Four patio doors are opened on warm summer nights to ensure solidarity with the grounds. A full service wet bar complete with small refrigerator, wine rack, wine cooling refrigerator and copper sink complement this pent ultimate gathering center of the house.
